Traditional Hair Brush vs. Electric Brush: Which Is Better?

The biggest struggle women have when it comes to blow-drying their hair at home is achieving a salon-like look. And one of the biggest mistakes they make is skipping the steps that are key to achieving this. Aside from having good practice and technique, you shouldn't forget about choosing and using the right brush. The right hair brush can make all the difference in your blowout, and choosing the right one comes down to two things: whether to choose a traditional or electric hair dry brush. Truth be said, both of them have pros and cons, and the one you choose mainly depends on your personal preference.

What Is a Traditional Brush?

Traditional hair brushes are one of the oldest and most commonly used types of brushes to this day. The greatest benefit is that this hair dry brush is versatile and more precise, offering greater control over heat and airflow. Unlike electric brushes, this one allows for different styling options, especially because of the wide range of brush sizes and bristle options.

Choosing a traditional hair dry brush also gives greater control over the heat and speed settings, giving you the chance to minimise heat exposure. Given the fact that usually most blow dryers have a cool shot button, this will help you to seal hair cuticles and achieve a shinier appearance and longer-lasting blowout.

What Is Electric Brush?

Unlike the traditional type, the electric hair brush has everything in it. These brushes combine a blow dryer and brush in one tool, simplifying the styling process. Just like blow dryers, these hairstyling tools are also available in a selection of sizes, types and heat strength, from which it depends how long-lasting your hairstyle will be. According to some, using this tool is much more practical and fast then having to use a brush and blow dryer at the same time, however, not all agree with this. So, in the end, it all goes down to your personal preferences and experience.

Heat Distribution

Blowing out your hair with a traditional brush gives you more control over the heat distribution. By holding the blow dryer in one hand and the brush with the other, you can see how much heat you are putting on one hair piece, which gives you the ability to change the heat as you need. However, some people don't like to use it because of their wrong conception that there's no even heat distribution.

Electric hair brushes seem to offer better heat distribution, which minimises the risk of hair damage. But once again, blowing out your hair with a traditional brush will give you the same result as doing it with an electric one, and in the end, there's a certain amount of hair damage in both of these methods. So, in the end, it all comes down to personal preferences above all. The one thing you shouldn't fall for is the electric models claiming to be enriched with macadamia or argan oil and keratin. It's said that these oils are released once the brush is heated, and this is the biggest mistake people make when choosing a brush. Witha brush like this, they usually skip the hair treatment process, which will damage your hair even more.

Long-Term Hair Health

Whether you use a traditional or electric blow-dry brush, the one thing that stays the same for using them is that the hair needs to be pretreated in order to stay healthy. Otherwise, you risk damaging it, which will lead to split ends and breakage. Given the fact that both of these blow-drying methods rely on heat for achieving a salon-like blowout, regular trims and intensive conditioning treatments might be necessary to keep your hair healthy and shiny.

Cost

The truth is that investing in traditional brushes for these purposes is much more cost-effective than investing in electric ones. Even if you need to invest in more than one, they are still much more affordable than investing in an electric one. This goes especially to those electric brushes that come with different head parts. They can be quite expensive, especially if investing in one coming from a more trusted and reputable brand.

Ease of Use

Generally speaking, electric brushes seem to be easier to use because you don't need an additional blow dryer in order to blow out your hair. However, not all love them, a great number of women prefer the use of the old-fashioned models because of their greater control and ability to obtain a salon-like look at home.

As you can see, both of these brushes seem to be a good choice, so the one you choose mainly depends on your personal preference. But if weighing down the characteristics, it seems that the good old-fashioned brushes are the most preferred choice.
